3 Workshop Bundle for In-person Writing Workshops at Canal Quarter Arts
Have you ever dreamed of writing a book? Let's make 2026 the year you get it done.
I’ve written and published six novels and contributed to Launch Pad: The Countdown to Writing Your Book. I will walk you through the process of writing your novel. With this product you can pick any 3 of my monthly workshops to attend. Use it to test out the first quarter workshops or pick 3 that appeal to you most.
Workshops will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 5-7:00 PM at Canal Quarter Arts in Fredericksburg, VA.
January - Brainstorming Your Novel. We'll explore methods of getting your story ideas out of your head and finding a path forward.
February - Lay the Groundwork We’ll define the basics of genre, theme, perspective, voice, tone for your book. We’ll also talk about the key question: Does your book idea have legs?
March - Give It Structure Sprout those seeds from your brainstorming into a high level outline. Identify common types of story structure. Structure your story with readers in mind.
April - Develop Characters Building characters readers care about. What is a character arc and why is it important? Details that make your characters seem real.
May - Plan Your Scenes What makes a good scene? Write scenes to move your story forward, develop characters, deepen the reader’s connection to your story.
June - Shovel Sand into the Sandbox Getting your first draft done. Set writing goals, embrace the mess, and productivity tools.
July - Stay on Task Keep your focus on your story by resisting plot bunnies, new project ideas, and distractions. We’ll talk about strategies for keeping focus during the drafting process.
August - Give and Take Feedback Work with critique partners, and give and receive feedback that is constructive and helpful.
September - Revise Your Draft Make a plan for revision. Explore tough decisions around structure. Learn to ‘kill your darlings’.
October - Find Your Path to Publication Whether you want to query agents, or publish your book yourself, we’ll identify your options and the risks and benefits of different paths to publications and how to avoid scams.
November - What Can Editor Can Do For You? Identify the types of book editing and how each type can help your book. Discuss how to find your ideal editor, and receive their feedback.
December - Polish It ‘Til It Shines You’ve made your revisions, gotten your editor’s feedback and revised again. We’ll talk about what else you can do to polish your book and make it attractive to readers or agents.
